Show Notes (Full Photo Set Below)
I usually have a strict “no holiday music before Thanksgiving” policy, but when there’s a free acoustic show involved, sometimes you have to make exceptions. Despite temperatures in the upper 60s, it was a festive evening. I’ve decided that all concerts should have fake foam snow and a giant Christmas tree, because in combination, they provide some pretty and atypical lighting!
If you’re ready to get in the holiday spirit too, Kris Allen has a new Christmas album out called Somethin’ About Christmas (iTunes / Spotify / Artist Store), which includes a mix of old and new yuletide tunes. I’ll admit I hadn’t listened to it yet when I went to the show (remember my rule?), but I enjoyed the new songs, especially “Mommy, Is There More Than Just One Santa Claus”:
I know you told me that his reindeer move at lightning speed
But how did his eyes turn from blue to brown?
Yes, they might be magic, but it don’t make sense to me
How, in 20 minutes flat, did he lose 30 pounds?
Here’s to the precocious kids that figured out the whole “Santa” thing reallll quick. I was one of them. I’m pretty sure I also told at least one of my younger sisters. Does it make me a bad person if I find the thought of some discerning kid hearing this song and having a big ol’ Kris Kringle-y epiphany
very slightly amusing? Hey, it’ll empower them to make more realistic Christmas lists.
If that’s not enough for you, he also released a Christmas EP a couple years ago called Waiting for Christmas (iTunes / Spotify). It includes five classics including “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” which just so happens to be the quintessential Christmas song, if you ask me. I’ve never met a version I didn’t like, and his is no exception. I was happy to see it make an appearance at the end of his set at Tysons Corner Center.
Enjoy the photos! 🙂
